The first breast milk bank in Kerala will start operations from 5th February 2021.

        The first breast milk bank in the state will start functioning at Ernakulam General Hospital  on 5th February 2021. Minister KK Shailaja will inaugurate the project titled 'Nectar of Life' via video conference at a function at the hospital at 3 pm.

                The Breast Milk Bank was established in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Cochin Global. Collected milk can be stored in the bank intact for up to 6 months. Free breast milk is initially available only to infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of the General Hospital. The plan is to later set up a network of hospitals for milk collection and distribution.
